just a little rant

Right well i have been off to a terrible start with the whole 1 post a day. Sorry i bit off a whole lot more than i could chew, i had one of those moments when i forgot that i am a grown up. Today on my way home from school i had the radio on in my car when the song "Same Love" by macklemore came on. Now i've always hated this song, it has terrible melody, and awful beat so i suppose the only thing it has going for it would be the lyrics. so i took a real good listen this time and i hate it even more now than i did before. First of all i should just preface this by saying that i am a very open person, i love all people: men, women, children, seniors. I have had, and still do have friends of every sexual orientation (because i know that theres going to be a whole bunch of "HOMOPHOBE" screaming and finger pointing.) and they are some of the most wonderful people i have ever met. In our house i was raised and taught that EVERYBODY is an equal, be it young or old, male or female, gay or straight. And guess what else? I was raised in a right wing conservative, christian home. So when i hear the lyric's in a song like "same love" that take a poke at other's religion, or political stance it really friggen' irks me. In order for for us to all be seen as equals, and for opinions of the "right wing conservatives" opinions to change, perhaps we ought to stop throwing low blows at each other. So here is my analysis and thoughts of the song: Same Love by Macklemore

When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay,
First of all, what the fuck were you doing in the third grade that made you think that you were gay?!?! When i was in the third grade i was still busy playing barbies and watching digimon, boys still had cooties, and girls were the fucking bomb! It in no way surprises me that "you though that you were gay" in the third grade, the opposite sex was gross to everybody in the third grade.

'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight.
I couldn't draw worth shit, and i still can't, my best friend is a lesbian and my room has always been a disaster zone, does that make me a lesbian? no it just makes me a shitty drawer, and a slob, and you a master artist neat nick with an uncle who just happens to be homo sexual. seriously these lyrics make no sense.

I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like "Ben you've loved girls since before pre-k, trippin' "
my mom told me that too, but then i said uhmm no ew. so you're still way out in left field her buddy

Yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she?
Bunch of stereotypes all in my head.
speaking of stereo types, I'm pretty sure this may just be one great big one.

I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league"
I was too, i was too

A preconceived idea of what it all meant
For those that liked the same sex
Had the characteristics
Is there really something so wrong with just being yourself? whether you're gay or straight, tall or short, can't you just be the best you instead of trying to please everybody else?

The right wing conservatives think it's a decision
this family does not think that, in fact i know a whole bunch that don't think that, but ignorance sure is bliss isn't it.

And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made rewiring of a predisposition
i don't even have a comment for this bit

Playing God, aw nah here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know
and i do not even know what this even means.

And God loves all his children, is somehow forgotten
no this is also not forgotten. Not in my house!

But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago
I don't know
Thats a good way to win over those "right wing conservatives" (i believe you mean right wing christians by the way) by insulting the holiest part of a lot of  their lives.

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
and you shouldn't

My love
She keeps me warm
i thought we were fighting for marriage equality here, why all of the sudden the hetero-sexual "choice"

If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
i dont think hip hop hates you because your gay, i think hip hop hates you because this is a terrible hip hop song. if it can even be classified as hip hop that is.

Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
Yes actually and some of them are hilarious!

"what version of potato was this recorded with" <--- classic!

"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily

it does, and it needs to stop

We become so numb to what we're saying

A culture founded from oppression
and this is the exact problem with our generation right now, everybody feels oppressed. let me let you in on a little secret: its not oppression its called: life is fucking hard, get over yourself. you think your job sucks? get a better one. Not educated enough? Go back to school and get yourself educated, and damn rights expect it to be expensive as all hell, you're the one complaining your job sucks and you're want to fix it (FYI post secondary education is a privilege, NOT a right, just like a drivers licence).  Can't afford that new smart Phone? that must be terrible for you, everybody seemed to get on just fine without one in the 80's. Hell even the 90's and early 2000's. I am so over everybody else's whiny ass life that i'm stuck in.

Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em

Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
this is possibly the only lyric that makes sense in this entire shit show of a song

It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!
Live on and be yourself
Amen.

When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed
im really curious what fucking church you went to as a child, remind me to never go there. ever.

That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
i am too tire to keep writing about this even, i can feel my blood pressure sky rocketing.

I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it
you know what i support it too, but this song seems more about hate than anything else, above all equality. if you expect equality you better damn well return it.

(I don't know)
wasn't that clear before the song even started

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
She keeps me warm

We press play, don't press pause
Progress, march on
With the veil over our eyes
We turn our back on the cause
Till the day that my uncles can be united by law
When kids are walking 'round the hallway plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law is gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever God you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up... sex

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
She keeps me warm

Love is patient
Love is kind
Love is patient
Love is kind
(not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient
(not crying on Sundays)

Ok i can not write any more about this. its late, and i want to calm down before i go to bed. I am actually legitimately upset you guys. I stand for equality of all people of every gender, race, ethnicity, religion, and hair colour, but for crap's sake, if you're fighting for equality this is not the way to do it.

Oh and Mr. Macklemore, coming from one of your "right wing conservatives", excuse me, but could you please stop putting words in my fucking mouth? that would be much appreciated, because you dont even know the half of it.

(sorry about all of the profanities and sarcasm readers, im just really cheesed.)
